![]() ![]() ![]() This novel was bursting with atmosphere and in every scene I was instantly transported to the era and location depicted. As with all of her novels, Kate Morton has created a perfect symmetry between generations, interconnecting the past with the present on so many levels. The Forgotten Garden was such a wonderful novel to lose yourself in, I hardly know where to start with this review. Inheriting a book of dark and intriguing fairytales written by Eliza Makepeace-the Victorian authoress who disappeared mysteriously in the early twentieth century-Cassandra takes her courage in both hands to follow in the footsteps of Nell on a quest to find out the truth about their history, their family and their past little knowing that in the process, she will also discover a new life for herself. ![]() But an unexpected and mysterious bequest from Nell turns Cassandra’s life upside down and ends up challenging everything she thought she knew about herself and her family. By Janet Webb MaKimberly Belles domestic suspense My Darling Husband portrays what happens when Jade is confronted by a home invader and begins to uncover the dangerous secrets her husband has kept from her. The pair have to hustle everyday for a place in their suburban paradise of Hidden Oaks in Florida and to raise their two children. The book follows the perspective of the husband who has been married to his “lovely” wife Mildred for fifteen years. It’s definitely got a deeper exploration into the suburban mentality that some may enjoy but it is very heavy on the crime drama and the suspense! If you don’t love crime or are not a huge fan of thrillers, this book will not be for you. I was desperate for a good read to take my mind on an adventure and boy did I find that here! That kindled rivalries with contemporaries Norman Mailer and John Updike, who Wolfe referred to as "two old piles of bones". Wolfe complained that novelists did not bring enough reality to their books, and while bemoaning the state of American literature, offered himself as an exemplar of what it should be. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Tuesday that Wolfe's "wry wit and sharp observations defined an era of life in New York".
